They’re Selling Children on Vinted?

A secondhand plush toy listed for over 4,000 euros. The description reads “12 years, 152 centimeters.” On an app where you usually buy used shoes and t-shirts. They’re selling children?

France has opened an investigation. The prosecutor’s office in Nanterre, near Paris, confirmed a preliminary inquiry after the reports came in. Listings with absurd four-figure prices, paired with ages, heights, and sizes. A Harry Potter figure at 30,000 euros went viral.

It all started on TikTok, then the screenshots everywhere, on Instagram, Reddit, and X. Within days, millions of people saw the same images and drew the same conclusion.

For now, there’s no proof. Vinted, behind those listings, says it has found no trafficking network. Says the inflated prices are collector’s value, or provocation. Says the ages and measurements are the toy’s, the range it’s made for, like the label on the box.

In Germany too, the Frankfurt police are checking, and meanwhile warn that many of those posts look very much like fakes. And maybe they are, let’s hope so.

Whatever the truth is, a platform with payments and private chat can always be used to approach someone in secret, and that’s why every report has to be taken seriously.

What do you think?
